Toward Unsupervised Work: Establishing Entrustment and Autonomy Sally Santen, M.D., Ph.D. Assistant Dean for Educational Research and Quality Improvement; The concept of allowing appropriate autonomy to the learner so that each can develop independence has been termed entrustment. The optimal educational environment is built on providing learners autonomy even while they are being supervised.
