Dr. Sonya Miller Named Interim PM&R Residency Program Director

We are pleased to announce that Sonya Miller, MD, the current associate program director of the PM&R physician residency program, has been appointed the interim program director of the residency program as of Monday, June 26, 2017. Dr. Miller received her MD from the University of Oklahoma. She completed her PM&R residency at the University of Michigan in 1998 where she served as chief resident. She joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 1999 after a year in Texas. Dr. Miller has served as the associate program director since 1999. Denise Gakle Retiring from Pharmacology Dept.

Denise Gakle, Administrative Associate II, will be retiring at the end of June after 40 years of dedicated service to the Department of Pharmacology at the University’s Medical School. Denise joined the Department of Pharmacology in 1977. We thank Denise for her four decades of outstanding and dedicated service and wish her the best in the next steps of her journey.

Nancy Lindner Retiring from Human Genetics Dept.

Nancy Lindner, Senior Financial Manager, will be retiring at the end of June after many years of dedicated service to the Department of Human Genetics at the University’s Medical School. Nancy joined the University of Michigan in 1985 and worked at the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Pharmacology prior to joining the Human Genetics Department in 1988. Dr. Thomas F. Anderson retiring from Dermatology

Many congratulations to Thomas F. Anderson, MD, associate professor of dermatology, whose retirement will be effective, July 1, 2017. Dr. Anderson joined the faculty of the University of Michigan Department of Dermatology in 1978. His expertise in the area of photo medicine has enhanced our education and clinical research missions and has advanced our clinical and patient care programs in the areas of psoriatic skin disease and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. He served a primary role in establishing and directing the U-M Dermatology Treatment Center (DTC), a highly successful treatment program for those afflicted with severe psoriasis disease. DLHS Chair Charles Friedman elected to first IAHSI

Charles P. Friedman, PhD, chair of the "first in the nation" U-M Department of Learning Health Sciences, was recently elected by The International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) to become part of the inaugural class of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI). Formed to recognize expertise in biomedical and health informatics, the academy will foster collaboration and training among internationally distinguished members to be inducted during the 16th World Congress on Medical and Health Informatics in Hangzhou, China from 21st -25th August 2017. Carol Barnett, RN, BS, is retiring!

Carol Barnett, RN, MS, will be retiring at the end of June after many years of dedicated service to Nursing, Ambulatory Care Nursing, School of Nursing Accreditation, MQS, and the Performance Improvement unit of the Quality Department. Cardiology Fellow Receives Prestigious AMA Foundation Leadership Award

Shashank S. Sinha, MD, MSc, has been awarded the prestigious 2017 American Medical Association Foundation Leadership Award. As an honorary recipient, he will attend the Excellence in Medicine Awards celebration and dedicated Leadership Award educational programming held in conjunction with the American Medical Association’s annual meeting in Chicago, June 8 –10, 2017. Dr. Sinha is a fourth-year general cardiology fellow at the University of Michigan and a second-year research fellow funded by a National Institutes of Health T32 postdoctoral training grant at the U-M Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation.
