Plan your event for annual U-M MLK Symposium

Every January and February, the university hosts its annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Symposium — a collection of more than 60 events across campus.

The theme for the 2018 symposium is “The Fierce Urgency of Now.” This theme calls on members of the U-M community to claim ownership of current challenges and not leave them for future generations to address.

“Amidst technological advancements and increased global connections, much work still needs to be done to heal the wounds of the past and resolve the injustices of our present,” said Robert M. Sellers, vice provost for equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer at U-M. “‘The Fierce Urgency of Now’ compels us to not only act, but to also acknowledge that the absence of action and the continuation of silence serves to bring us deeper into the shadows of division.”

The keynote memorial lecture for the symposium will take place on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at 10 a.m. in Hill Auditorium. The lecture is coordinated by the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives under the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
