Enter membership lottery for UH South Wellness Center by Oct. 22
Based on overwhelming interest and a limited number of memberships available due to the facility’s space constraints, please be advised that UH South Wellness Center memberships will be distributed through a lottery.
How to enter the membership lottery:
Michigan Medicine faculty or staff members who are interested in purchasing a membership can enter the membership lottery through Oct. 22. Only those who enter by Oct. 22 will be included in the lottery.
During the week of Oct. 23, employees who were selected in the lottery will be notified via the email address they provided on the lottery form. They will have until Nov. 10 to purchase a membership for $10 per month. More information is available on MHealthy’s website.
About the UH South Wellness Center:
The wellness center, which is now scheduled to open in early November, is located on the 8th floor of UH South. It will feature state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, shower and restroom facilities, space for group exercise and relaxation classes, on-site health and wellbeing programs, and more. Once opened, the facility will be available to members 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
All Michigan Medicine active full- and part-time faculty and staff are eligible to become members if their name is chosen through the lottery process. Initially, 1,200 memberships will be available, with regular reviews of facility usage to determine if additional memberships can be offered.
The monthly $10 membership fee will help to cover the wellness center’s ongoing maintenance and operational expenses. There are no contract or initiation fees.
The facility will also serve as a space for all Michigan Medicine employees to access health and wellbeing services. Membership will not be required for weight management coaching, fitness assessments, tobacco cessation services, personal training and group exercise and relaxation classes.
In addition, the Occupational Health Services physical therapist will be re-located to the center to allow for improved space and equipment for the rehabilitation of work-related injuries.
MHealthy, the university’s health and wellbeing service, will manage day-to-day operations.
“We want to thank everyone for their patience as we revamped our process to allow all Michigan Medicine faculty and staff to have an opportunity to purchase a membership,” said LaVaughn Palma-Davis, senior director, Health & Well-Being Services. “The great response to this facility speaks to the value of such on-site services to helping our faculty and staff take care of themselves and develop resiliency for our mission of caring for our patients.”
Michigan Medicine faculty and staff also have access to the wellness center at the North Campus Research Complex (NCRC), which offers similar services at the same monthly fee.
