October 16, 2017  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

In conjunction with the annual NCRC Expo on Wednesday, Oct. 18, four Medical School Office of Research units will be hosting the NCRC Expo Seminar Series in the morning. All Michigan Medicine faculty and staff are invited and light refreshments will be provided!

The units scheduled to present include:

8 a.m.: “Institutional Data and Biomaterials for your Research  Accessing Enterprise-Wide Clinical and Genetic Data and Biospecimens”

  • Get insights about biospecimens available for research through the U-M Medical School’s Central Biorepository, and how to link these samples with clinical data from MiChart. Plus, learn how to create a biorepository and get more information about other research services supported by the unit.

9 a.m.: “Revisions to the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects (Common Rule)”

  • IRBMED addresses the implementation of the Revisions to the Common Rule issued by the Department of Health and Human Services. Most of the revisions are currently scheduled to become effective Jan. 19, 2018.

10 a.m.: “Research Development Resources for Faculty Funding Success”

  • The Medical School Office of Research and the Michigan Institute of Clinical and Health Research (MICHR) offer a host of resources for research development — every step from finding funding to proposal development and editing. Proposal experts will explain how U-M research teams can access tools and services aimed at improving the quality of grant submissions and the chances of funding success.

11 a.m.: “Taking the Administrative Burden Out of Science: How Clinical Trial Support Units Provide Innovative Help to Investigators and Study Teams”

  • Presented by the Clinical Trials Support Office
  • Clinical Trials Support Units (CTSUs) are extensions of various departments. The CTSUs contain the infrastructure to provide high-quality clinical trials services to investigators and study teams. The team will highlight the partnership process, including how to choose a CTSU, when and how to contact the CTSUs, and all of the services that are available.
