Reminder: Changes coming to wired network

August 10, 2017  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

In continued efforts to increase the security of Michigan Medicine’s networks, Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) is making changes that will impact how you connect devices to the Michigan Medicine wired network.

The department is almost halfway through its changes, but a number of “unknown” devices are still connecting by wire. It is essential that HITS inventories and registers these devices so that they will be able to connect successfully when wired controls are implemented in an area. HITS also want to be sure that all devices have the information assurance necessary to safeguard the network.

This past spring, HITS successfully put security controls in place for the wireless network — but the department hasn’t stopped there. Its goal is to ensure that all devices connecting to the wired network will also have the appropriate security controls required by the end of the calendar year.

To assist with inventory management, a Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) has been assigned to work closely with each department within Michigan Medicine. These representatives will be reaching out shortly if they haven’t already.
