Changes to software access at Campus Computing Sites

Starting this month, access to software at Campus Computing Sites and Virtual Sites will be granted based on a person’s university affiliation: student, faculty, staff, sponsored affiliate, alumni or general public. The change will improve compliance with software licensing agreements and will help ensure cost-effective Campus Computing Sites into the future.

Some licensing contracts limit software to be used only for academic use. These titles will no longer be available to staff at Campus Computing Sites or on Virtual Sites. If you are a staff member who uses Sites computers or Virtual Sites, visit the Sites Software website to see if the software you use has licensing restrictions. If you no longer have access to the software you use, you may:

  • Request a license to use the software using your department’s software request process, or

  • Submit a request to the ITS Service Center to receive an exception if you use the software for academic purposes. Exception requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for approval.
