The Michigan State Medical Society — or MSMS — announced that Bradley J. Uren, M.D., Michigan Medicine’s assistant professor of emergency medicine, has been named chair of MSMS’s Committee on State Legislation and Regulations.

“We would not be successful in distilling the diversity of opinion among physicians into coherent and defensible policy positions without the efforts of Dr. Uren,” said MSMS President Cheryl Gibson Fountain, M.D. “He has quickly gained the respect of his peers on the committee, as well as lawmakers in Lansing and Washington, D.C.”

Uren has held a number of positions in organized medicine, including a previous term as president of the Washtenaw County Medical Society and the Michigan College of Emergency Physicians. He has a particular interest in health legislation and policy, has testified several times before the Michigan legislature and has chaired legislative committees at the state and national level.

“The legislature has a tremendous influence on the practice environment here in Michigan,” Uren said. “Through organizations like MSMS, Michigan physicians have an opportunity to work together to ensure the best possible practice environment to better serve our patients.”

For any Michigan Medicine faculty member interested in joining MSMS, special pricing may be available for serving on any of its committees
