Grief Week 2017 begins today

Grief Week — which kicks off today — is full of events, presentations and unit-based activities designed to help faculty and staff acknowledge and address losses in their professional or personal lives.

The events are free and open to any member of the Michigan Medicine community. Here is a full list of Grief Week activities:

Monday, May 15

  • Schwartz Rounds, “The Cost of Caring: When Empathy Hurts”: Noon – 1 p.m., Ford Auditorium (lunch provided to first 125 in attendance)

Tuesday, May 16

  • Patient and Family-Centered Care family panel, “Grief and Gratitude”: 2 p.m. – 3 p.m., Danto Auditorium
  • Palette of Grief: 6 p.m. – 7 p.m., NCRC Research Auditorium

Wednesday, May 17

  • Determinants of Grief: 9 a.m. – 10 a.m., Ford Auditorium (Nursing contact and social work continuing education hours offered)
  • The FABULOUS Principle: Noon – 1 p.m., Ford Auditorium (lunch provided to first 125 in attendance)

Thursday, May 18

  • Gifts of Art presents “Mini Wreaths, Do It Yourelf Floral Workshop”: Noon – 1 p.m., University Hospital main entrance floor 1 lobby
  • Walking Each Other Home: Being Partners in Grief: 1 p.m.–  2:30 p.m., Ford Auditorium (Nursing contact and social work continuing education hours offered)
  • Talking with Children About Illness, Death and Dying: 3 p.m. – 4 p.m., Ford Auditorium

Friday, May 19

  • Funeral Customs and Rituals: Ways to Say Goodbye: 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., MCHC Auditorium (Nursing contact and social work continuing education hours offered and lunch included at conclusion of presentation)

Wednesday, May 24

  • Honoring the Layers of Grief in a Health Care Environment: Noon – 1 p.m., CVC Boardroom, Rm 5321
  • Loss, Memory, Compassion and Self Car: An Exploration in Art: 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., UH 2C108
