Community Benefit contributions: Submissions due by June 30

Michigan Medicine’s faculty, staff and medical students continually show their commitment to improving the health of the local community by providing programs and services for free or low cost. Team members spend hours caring for and promoting the well-being of the poor, underserved and underinsured.

These efforts are categorized as “Community Benefit” (CB), and are an important factor in the continuation of the organization’s tax-exempt status. Between now and June 30, Michigan Medicine departments should submit reports for services and programs they provided to the community during fiscal year 2016 (July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016). Submissions for fiscal year 2017 will also be accepted. The reporting form can be downloaded on the Michigan Medicine Community Benefit website.

Michigan Medicine’s Office of Community Benefit, in collaboration with many departments, will then prepare the health system-wide Community Benefit report for the Michigan Health and Hospital Association CB survey. The survey highlights contributions of hospitals to their communities across Michigan and provides an opportunity for each organization to assess its investment in advancing community health.
