Blossom by blossom: Elvish ceramics now on display

Artist Gabrielle Soltis creates works from an impressive lineage.

The story goes that sometime in the early 1700s, a young Danish nobleman by the name of Einar Gyldenstjerne fell in love and married an Elvish woman named Gwyneira who shared the family recipe for how to create hard-paste porcelain.

The first items produced by the Gyldenstjerne Porcelain Company date back to 1715. Soltis’ porcelain flowers in this tradition are assembled meticulously petal by petal. She studied ceramics at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and is interested in European history and fiction.
