Michigan Medicine is proud to care for a diverse population of patients. Communication is the foundation for providing effective care, as it helps ensure a comprehensive assessment and determining a treatment plan that is patient and family centered.

When a patient or family member asks, “Do you have translation services available for my relative/family member who does not speak English well?” Tell them, “Yes! Michigan Medicine has medical interpreters available to translate conversations in many different languages.”

In fact, they cover more than 70 available languages, including American Sign Language. Refer patients and families to Interpreter Services at 734-936-7021 or www.med.umich.edu/interpreter for assistance and more information. This will improve the quality and safety of care by making sure that patients and families are understood.
