Help Michigan Medicine team capture STAT Madness title
A team of Michigan Medicine scientists and physicians has a shot at a national title — and you can help them win by voting in the final round of STAT Madness, the first virtual tournament for medical science discoveries! Simply visit the STAT Madness website and choose a winner, then submit your bracket by entering your email address in the pop-up window.
Your votes — which will be tallied through Sunday night — can help them beat a team from the University of Pittsburgh in the championship round.
The Michigan Medicine group is led by Robert P. Dickson, M.D., a pulmonologist who studies the bacteria living in lungs. Last summer, the team published their discovery that bacteria from the gut could be found in the lungs of critically-ill patients. The research may lead to new treatments for patients in intensive care.
“We’re finally able to ask and answer the right questions,” Dickson said about the team’s discovery. “It’s a really exciting time.”
