Gifts of Art presents Deep Ocean View at UH

March 30, 2017  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

Durwood Coffey, an artist from Westland, Michigan, was influenced at an early age by his artistic family, especially by his father and brother who were both enamored with drawing.

While in the U.S. Marine Corps, he served as a combat artist, whose job was to interpret and illustrate fellow Marine experiences with emotional resonance, all while protecting himself and others.

After spending the first part of his working life as an illustrator, Coffey decided to focus entirely on his own paintings of images from the animal kingdom.

Now, his work is on display for faculty, staff, patients and families at Michigan Medicine.

In this exhibition, the viewer is plunged up-close into the beautiful world of the sea.

Here’s how to check out the exhibit:

Where: Gifts of Art Gallery — University Hospital Main Lobby, Floor 1.
