Cakeasaurus: Scenes From a Picture Book now on display

One caffeinated afternoon in 2008, a monster appeared to Marian Short, bragging about his many cake thefts. He was arrogant, sugar-fueled and oddly appealing. Being a printmaker, Short began carving the tale into woodblocks.

What resulted is a picture book exhibit that follows the confectionary exploits of Cakeasaurus, one cake-deprived town and one little boy about to turn five. It also shows the evolution of a long-term project, with print variations and peeks into artistic process.

Short, an Ann Arbor-based artist and writer, has had her work appear in local and national exhibitions. Now, her work is on display for all to see at Michigan Medicine!
