Learning Catalyst Award: Nominate for 2017, look back at 2016 winners
Nominations are now open for the Learning Catalyst Awards!
Each spring, the annual Learning Catalyst Awards honor outstanding staff educators or teams who demonstrate excellence in staff education, as well as supporting ongoing staff development. Last year, there were nearly 40 nominations for exceptional educators and leaders who foster staff learning.
Do you know an educator or manager who should be recognized this year? Nominations for the 2017 Learning Catalyst Awards are open until Feb. 17.
The 2016 awards celebrated an amazing dedication to teaching and helping others achieve their goals and the positive impact that staff education and development has on our patients and families. Read below some of the many tributes that were written for the 2016 award recipients.
2016 INDIVIDUAL EDUCATOR AWARD RECIPIENTS
Karen Facer, Diagnostic Radiology

Mary Jo Maksym, 5B Nursing
“[Mary Jo’s] goal is to develop nurses into strong leaders. She is inspirational and a great influence of teamwork and collaboration. She is adaptable and takes initiative to lead her nursing staff on a road to success.”
UMHS Excellence in Learning Award for Outstanding Staff Educator – Team
Urology, Oncology Team Three
Juliette Derossett (Lead), Marie Richards, Bridget Cole, Robert McCormick and Opal Lesse
“[A team of] outpatient nurses and inpatient nurses … developed three books to give patients for bladder cancer. Developing the books has given both inpatient and outpatient nurses a clear view and put us on the same team…These books have also had a positive impact on patients”
