Picture it: Your 2017 resolutions in action

January 17, 2017  //  FOUND IN: Our Employees,

Congratulations to the following employees, who recently shared their 2017 resolutions with Headlines and won free movie tickets to the Michigan Theater!

As you can see, from eating healthier to improving the overall work environment, employees have ambitious plans for the new year.

If you are among the top submissions listed below, the Department of Communication will reach out to help you claim your prize. Thank you to everyone who showed Headlines their 2017 plans in action!

Kelly Bates, call center associate supervisor, Canton Health Center

Some say spring is a chance at rebirth, and while that may be true, I feel it rings even truer in January at the fresh start of a new year!

In January, I start prepping myself for another year and how I will tackle it. Every year I get a little bit better … Most of my previous resolutions have now been integrated into my daily routines.

Here is a selfie of me eating more green vegetables, one of my goals for 2017. The salad was packed with healthy veggies and I used a 45-calorie yogurt dressing. I also am getting ready to start my MHealthy Yoga Class here onsite, and I am the team captain for our Active U team, the Canton Cruisers!

Kelley Rose French, quality improvement coordinator, pediatric gastroenterology

Attached is a picture of my colleague Sam and myself carrying out our 2017 resolution, which is to include “lean thinking” into our Quality Improvement activities by using a modified version of team huddles and ELI’s — or Everyday Lean Ideas.

This methodology is aimed at helping us see what immediate tasks in our unit need our attention, who is carrying out the actions necessary and when they are completed.

In the end, the system will help us provide better care for our patients!

Cassie McNulty, communications specialist, quality administration

In 2017, my resolution is to commit to volunteering more often.

That means a pledge to help both animals and people in need.

Here is a selfie of me volunteering at my local Humane Society.

Matthew Melvin, rehab technician, outpatient physical therapy and Amanda Weaver, clinical exercise physiologist, CVC

The resolution for my wife Amanda and I in 2017 is to continue improving our health and fitness.

Amanda and I both joined the Michigan Medicine family in 2015 and got married in August 2016.

Through our time at U-M, we continue to grow professionally and personally through our love for running and helping patients.

Programs such as Active U through MHealthy are such a nice reminder for us to get out of the house for a run or walk. It definitely brings out the competitive side of us to stay on top of the leaderboard!

Gillian Mayman, IT communications specialist, service management, Health Information Technology and Services

Our resolution for 2017 is simple: We want to have more fun together as a team!

Cassandra Delgado, resident orthoptist, physical medicine and rehabilitation

I moved from Florida this year to Michigan and it’s been a huge challenge for me to stay active with such a change in climate. However, U-M does such a great job providing ways for every team member to stay healthy.

For this new year, I’m going to work on tracking my progress! I got a FitBit, synced it with my Active U, and joined an Active U team with my coworkers!

Thanks to MHealthy for all the department does in making this a great place to work.

Winnie Wong, IT project senior manager

This year, as I stay committed to my love of competitive running, I am setting the goal of achieving a sub-1:45 half-marathon on April 30!
