Gifts of Art presents toy robots, past and present

January 11, 2017  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

Elaine Reed has been collecting toy robots for more than 30 years. As a painter herself, she appreciates the artistic design and futuristic ideas that robots awaken in people. As a child, television programs like Lost in Space, The Jetsons and Star Trek inspired Reed to dream large and wish for a real robot of her own.

Although she doesn’t own any real live robots, some of her best friends are robots. At Michigan Medicine, Reed works as a bedside artist for the Gifts of Art program and as an artist at the Turner Senior Resource Center. She also volunteers at the nonprofit 826 Michigan in Ann Arbor writing about robots.

Come see her collection of toy robots in the Gifts of Art gallery in the Cancer Center Elevator Alcove on level 2. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and the robots will be on display through June 11.
