The countdown is on. There are only three days left to get your free flu vaccine ahead of the health system’s Dec. 1 deadline! By getting your vaccination, you play a vital role in ensuring the safety of our patients, families and colleagues this flu season.

In advance of Thursday’s deadline, UMHS is providing all employees another convenient opportunity to get the vaccine without ever leaving University Hospital.

The final UMHS flu fair of the season will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 29:

  • When: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Where: UH Dining Room

Be sure to bring your UMHS ID badge with you so you can receive your vaccine.

Under the health system’s policy, all students, volunteers, faculty and staff must get their annual vaccine by Dec. 1, 2016 or receive an approved exemption or submit a declination. Those with an approved exemption or who submitted a declination will be required to wear a mask in patient care areas for the entire flu season.

MNA/UMPNC and AFSCME bargaining unit members should refer to their union contracts and memoranda of understanding pertaining to flu vaccinations for additional information. Per the MOUs, MNA/UMPNC and AFSCME bargaining unit members may decline the vaccination for medical, religious or other reasons. To see the MOU for MNA/UMPNC employees, click here. The MOU for AFSCME employees is available here. Any MNA/UMPNC or AFSCME bargaining unit member who wishes to decline the vaccination, please click here to submit a declination.

If you get the vaccine at your doctor’s office, pharmacy or any other location outside of UMHS, submit flu shot documentation to your department’s compliance contact so they can record it and give you a sticker for your ID badge. Please be aware that, in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu mist is not an acceptable alternative to the flu vaccination.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. For more information, including Frequently Asked Questions, go to the UMHS flu website.
