Congratulations to the University of Michigan Health System, which has been honored for its commitment to patient safety with another A on the fall 2016 Hospital Safety Score.

Today’s national report card, issued by the Leapfrog Group, places U-M among the best hospitals nationwide in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. Only the top 32 percent of evaluated hospitals, or 844 out of 2,633, received an A.

The report card is intended to give patients a quick way to understand how well health care institutions are doing on a broad range of safety measures. Those 30 measures look at everything from hand hygiene to communication about medicines and discharge information.

Data comes from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and secondary data services such as the American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey.

The UMHS Quality & Safety website offers a wide range of other data on the quality and safety of the care provided at UMHS. Visit the website to learn more.

Thank you for your hard work in keeping UMHS among the national leaders in patient safety!
