Dr. David Sandberg Named Member of SGMRWG

Dr. David E. Sandberg, Director of Pediatric Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics & Communicable Diseases, has been named a member of the Sexual and Gender Minority Research Working Group (SGMRWG) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This group is an official Working Group of the NIH Council of Councils, a body that provides advice to the NIH Director on matters related to the policies and activities of the Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI).

The Sexual & Gender Minority Research Office (SGMRO) was established within DPCPSI in fall 2015. The SGMRWG advises the Council on DPCPSI activities that relate to sexual and gender minority research, including activities of the SGMRO, such as:

• Opportunities for trans-NIH SGM-related research and research collaborations;
• Strategies for increasing the number of SGM investigators and the number of investigators conducting SGM-relevant research;
• Approaches for optimizing outreach to the SGM research and stakeholder communities; and
• Priorities for the most needed and promising areas of SGM-related research.
