Culinary Classroom: MHealthy to host cooking demonstration

Healthy cooking doesn’t have to be a mystery. But if it were, Jason Schweitzer, executive chef, and Holly Scherer, a registered dietitian with MHealthy Nutrition and Weight Management, would solve it during MHealthy’s upcoming cooking demonstration, “In the Kitchen with Chef – Vegetarian Style.”

“We’ll demystify vegetarian cooking and show how easy it is to make foods you and your family will love – that happen to be vegetarian,” said Schweitzer. “We’re going to prepare dishes that are creative, simple to make and delicious. At the end of the hour, you’ll have more confidence and ability with vegetarian cooking than when you arrived.”

During this interactive event, which takes place Wednesday, Nov. 2 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Dow Auditorium, you’ll learn how to make nutritious and flavorful vegetarian meals that go well beyond tofu, as well as:

  • receive essential kitchen skills and meal planning tips;
  • get step-by-step instructions on preparing easy and simple vegetarian dishes;
  • take home healthy recipes;
  • and best of all, enjoy food samples!

Participants will also have an opportunity to win a bag of grocery items used to prepare the featured recipes!

“Eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help you feel better and have more energy throughout your day. It is also one of the best ways to prevent and control health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and some forms of cancer,” said Scherer. “Sometimes all it takes are small changes to what you eat to make a big impact in meeting your health goals.”
