For the second straight year, U-M Hospitals and Health Centers are a standard-bearer for excellence in information technology.

UMHHC was recently named one of 2016’s Most Wired by the American Hospital Association Health Forum. The winners were recognized for their performance in adopting and implementing information technology to better serve patients and employees within the health system.

“This recognition is a tangible example of the quality work our IT staff does on a daily basis,” said Andrew Rosenberg, M.D., UMHHC’s interim chief information officer.

Specifically, UMHHC had to prove excellence in three areas:

  • How it implements and trains for the increased use of electronic health records
  • How it utilizes mobile device technology, including smartphone applications and other resources
  • How it utilizes social media to reach patients and provide resources

To secure this coveted honor, UMHHC Information Technology created secure mobile access to emails and other UMHS documents via the AirWatch app.

The organization also encrypted outbound email messages containing patient health and other sensitive information and upgraded the MiChart electronic health records program with new features, fixes and enhancements.

“Every year, the Most Wired award continues to look for innovations and innovators,” Dr. Rosenberg said. “Receiving this award represents the ongoing efforts of our staff and our organization to keep us at the forefront of healthcare technology and services.”

Congratulations to our information technology team for their incredible work!
