After several months of planning and renovation, University Hospital is set to open additional beds dedicated to palliative care on Tuesday June 7, 2016.  The palliative care beds will be located in the Medical Short Stay Unit:Blue (MSSU:Blue) on the 4th floor of UH South and will be staffed by the Adult Palliative Care Service with support from MSSU staff.

Please note that there are only two additional palliative care beds, therefore patients must be evaluated by the Adult Palliative Care Consult Service before they can be considered for transfer to these beds.

The new beds will serve adult patients with serious illness who need complex symptom management, or those who are transitioning to a comfort focused approach to care with needs that require hospitalization but cannot be easily managed on other inpatient units.  The patient rooms and adjacent family space were also designed with patient and family comfort in mind.

Be sure to attend the open house on Monday, June 6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. where you can check out the Palliative Care Rooms and meet members of the team.

For more information, visit the Palliative Care Program website or call 734-936-8357.
