Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors that increase the risk for coronary artery disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.  The two most important risk factors for metabolic syndrome are extra weight around the middle of the body (central obesity, or "apple-shaped"), and insulin resistance, where the body cannot use insulin effectively.

The goal of treatment is to reduce the risk of diseases with nutrition and exercise in the supportive environment of a structured program with peers.  We provide coaching strategies so that each individual participant can be successful in making positive changes in their lives that work for them.

The Metabolic Fitness Program sessions combine educational discussions and clinically-supervised exercise.  Referrals and individual clinic screening appointments are required.  Weekly sessions meet Tuesday’s 5:30 – 7 p.m. or 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Cardiovascular Medicine at Domino’s Farms.
