Ticket to success in 2016: Congrats to our giveaway winners
Congratulations to the following members of Team UMHS who won tickets to an upcoming basketball game by simply sharing their goals and plans for 2016.
Casey Jentzen, Nurse’s Aide
“In the past year and a half, I’ve lost 100 lbs., but am not at my goal weight yet. I’ve started 2016 by working out and eating healthy. My health is important to me because not only am I newly married, but my wife and I just found out we are expecting our first child. I want to set a good example in every way, which includes healthy living.”
Erin Mobley, 2nd Year Masters Degree Student
“I was recently granted the Global Special Studies Scholarship through the School of Social Work to spend a few weeks abroad learning about alternative methods for dementia care. I will be going to Hogewey dementia village and working on a green care farm for individuals with dementia in August of this year. It is my dream to bring some of these methods of care back to the United States and possibly start a green care farm of my own.”
Matt Melvin, Rehabilitation Technician
“My professional goal for 2016 is to apply to nursing schools to obtain my BSN degree. I am an avid runner and have many personal goals for this year. I am aiming to run 3,000 miles in 2016 (last year I ran 2,200). Following the Active U challenge has helped to add a little extra incentive to follow through on my workout routine!”
Michele Martin, RN, BSN, ACNRP
“In August of 2013, my whole world changed. I was working a night shift in the Brandon NICU when I got a call from my brother that my dad was in the ER and very sick. Two days in the ICU to follow revealed Leukemia. After months of chemo, a stem cell transplant, and a roller coaster of health issues, my dad was cleared this week as officially cancer free and medically stable. My dad gets to be ‘normal’ again. He gets to be the dad, husband, and grandpa he couldn’t be for the last two years. Being able to have my dad back is a blessing and that’s what I’m looking forward to in 2016.”
Thank you to everyone who participated. Enjoy the basketball game and the year ahead!
