Celebrate Doug Strong’s career at Oct. 14 retirement reception

A retirement reception will be held for Doug Strong on Oct.14 from 3-5 p.m. in the Towsley Lobby. 

Remarks will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Douglas L. Strong, M.B.A. has been an outstanding contributor and tremendously valuable member of our executive team for 17 years.

From June 2014 to April 2015, he served as Interim Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the University of Michigan, and from August 2006 to June 2014 he was the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers, having served as interim CEO since October 2005.

Strong joined the University of Michigan Health System in 1998 as Associate Vice President for Health System Finance and Strategy. He was named Interim Chief Financial Officer for UMHS in 2002 and permanent CFO in 2004.

Strong came to the University of Michigan from the University of Chicago, where he served as Chief Financial Officer and Associate Dean of the Pritzker School of Medicine and the Biological Sciences Division. Previously, he was Associate Dean for Administration and Finance at the School of Medicine of the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Associate Dean of Planning and Operations at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He also held several positions at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine.

Strong is active in state and national healthcare associations, as well. He was on the Michigan Health & Hospital Association Board of Trustees and Executive Committee for eight years and served as Chairman of the Board from June 2011 to June 2012. He also served on the University Health System Consortium Board of Directors, including as Chair of the Governing Board in 2013.

Strong holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Master of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Arts and Sciences.
