Get CME, CEU credits through free online training in LGBTQ patient-centered care

All U-M Health System staff who serve our patients are encouraged to complete a free, online LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) patient-centered care training. Those who complete a course, pass competency checks, and complete an evaluation survey, will be eligible to receive CME or CEU credits.LGBT_Training_Image (1)

Your participation will help UMHS remain a leader in providing care to a diverse range of patients and communities. Please complete your credits before Oct. 25 so UMHS can maintain its Healthy Equity Index leadership status, which requires 25 hours of training among our employees each year.

Credit Details:

  • Physicians receive 1 credit for every AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM offered by the activity.
  • For Nurses, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.  Please refer to the ANCC’s Credentialing page for more information on nursing credits.
  • For all other health professionals, submit certification of your participation in the approved activity to your professional licensing board to request a transfer of credit into the appropriate amount of continuing education units.

An Introduction to Your LGBTQ Patients Curriculum 2-course series that serves as an introduction to lesbian, gay, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) identities and addresses diversity as a health issue, healthcare-related discrimination, social issues, and strategies for delivering accessible and affirming healthcare. Duration:  1 hour for complete curriculum. Introductory Maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
LGBTQ Patient-Centered Care:  An Executive Briefing  Curriculum(recommended for healthcare executives and administrators) 2-course series that serves as an introduction to lesbian, gay, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) identities and addresses diversity as a health issue, healthcare-related discrimination, social issues, and strategies for delivering accessible and affirming healthcare.  In addition, this curriculum discusses policy and accreditation changes related to serving LGBTQ patients and identifies ways to assist healthcare facilities in creating inclusive environments for LGBTQ patients.Duration:  1 hour 40 minutes for complete curriculum (3 courses) Introductory Maximum of 1.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Expanding LGBTQ Cultural Competency Curriculum 4 course curriculum that serves as an introduction to LGBTQ healthcare, including strategies for delivering accessible and affirming healthcare.  It covers common issues that clients may have, and provides basic cultural competency skills for working with LGBTQ clients and colleagues.Duration:  3 hours 30 minutes for complete curriculum (4 courses) Introductory Maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
LGBTQ Healthcare for Clinicians Curriculum 3 course curriculum that discusses strategies for creating inclusive healthcare environments and delivering accessible care to LGBTQ clients.  Covers barriers to healthcare and how society affects LGBTQ healthcare concerns.  Curriculum also explores unique health concerns among lesbian, gay, and bisexual clients and provides guidance on how to strengthen clinician-client communication.Duration:  2 hours for complete curriculum (3 courses) Ongoing Maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
