Butterfly release, themed activities today at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital
In partnership with the Healing Butterfly Program and Garden, a butterfly release is scheduled June 11 at 1:30 p.m. The release is in a new location—C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, in the courtyard near the new butterfly memorial statue.
In addition to the release of more than 100 butterflies, the event will feature butterfly friendly plants and flowers, live displays, education and various themed activities. Patients, families, faculty and staff of all ages are invited to attend.
While not the location of the butterfly release this June, the Healing Butterfly Garden can still be found in the main courtyard near the old Mott Hospital. This is among the first such gardens to be built within a medical center campus and integrated into the patient care experience. Educational signs displayed within the garden area provide information about visiting butterflies and plants found within the area. The garden provides another place for peace and reflection within the courtyard whether between treatments, visiting family members or just looking for a space to eat a quiet lunch.
Any departments that would like more information on how they can incorporate the program or garden area into their patient care experience, can contact Brendon Weil (5-0175) or Susan Fisher (4-9352).
The Healing Butterfly Program & Garden was established in 2013 and includes twice-a-year butterfly releases, weekly programs for patients of all ages, explorer programs for navigating the garden, and a quiet place for children and adult patients to reflect and heal.
The following media highlight the impact the garden has had on UMHS patients, visitors, faculty and staff.
