One Day Closer event to explore advances in cancer research

May 4, 2015  //  FOUND IN: Announcements,

One of Ann Arbor’s most exciting educational events is back. One Day Closer gives individuals and families an up-close look at one of the world’s leading cancer research facilities and what its internationally-recognized scientists and colleagues are doing to discover the cure for cancer.

Scientists in the Translational Oncology Program at the University of Michigan relentlessly pursue one goal: to improve outcomes for cancer patients. TOP scientists will donate their time on Saturday, May 9 to get one day closer to a cure for cancer. Join them for seminars, tours and interactive learning on this special day of research. Come and learn about the discoveries made in TOP laboratories at U-M and help move us one day closer.

The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with opening remarks by former Michigan football head coach Lloyd Carr. The fee is $10 for an individual or $30 for a family of four, which covers:

  • hands-on demonstrations
  • laboratory tours
  • lectures
  • question and answer sessions with world renowned cancer experts
  • catered lunch
  • One Day Closer T-shirt

“We approach the cure for cancer from many different angles in the Translational Oncology Program, but we’re always working together to bring the cure for cancer one day closer,” says Diane Simeone, M.D., Translational Oncology Program director. “One Day Closer is a chance for us to share our passion about cancer research with members of the public, to answer questions and encourage young people to consider a career in research.”
