Cancer Center to launch new advertising campaign

March 6, 2015  //  FOUND IN: Announcements,

You know what to do if there’s a fire, tornado or power outage. But do you know what to do if it’s cancer?

A new advertising campaign launching March 9 from the Comprehensive Cancer Center is designed to educate and empower people to take control of a cancer diagnosis.

The campaign, called Take On Cancer, developed out of focus group findings that cancer patients took a very passive approach to their cancer treatment plan. Take On Cancer challenges cancer patients, their loved ones and even those who have not been touched by cancer to learn to be active participants in their cancer care, armed with the knowledge they need to make informed choices. By providing that knowledge, we position the Cancer Center as thought leaders in the cancer space while educating and empowering patients to help improve health outcomes.

UMHS faculty and staff are invited to preview the campaign website at www.takeoncancer.org. A video at the top of the page outlines the concept of Take On Cancer. Starting March 9, billboards will go up throughout the region, along with online display ads and social media posts. Traffic radio, Pandora and Michigan Radio will also feature Take On Cancer messages.

In addition, the campaign includes a special social media effort using a platform called Thunderclap, which allows a single message to be mass-shared, flash mob-style, so it rises above the noise of social networks. Join the Take On Cancer Thunderclap by going to http://thndr.it/1GAjMWM and signing up to support through your Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr account. Encourage your friends and family to join as well. If you are on social media – Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest – look for #TakeOnCancer posts and share them with your networks.
