Do you play an instrument? Audition for the Life Sciences Orchestra!

In just a few weeks, the 13th season of the U-M Life Sciences Orchestra will begin, with a Sept. 9 “virtual meeting” online, and auditions on Sept. 10, 11, 12 and 15.

The winter concert will be Wednesday, Jan. 30 in Hill Auditorium, and will feature Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 and other works.

The spring concert will be Sunday, April 28 at Hill Auditorium.

The season will kick off with an online meeting for all who are interested in the LSO. Just go to https://connect.umms.med.umich.edu/lso12 from any computer at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 to hear from Music Director Oriol Sans, and to ask questions by typing them into a chat window.

Auditions will be held at the U-M School of Music on North Campus. On Sept. 10, 11 and 12, they will be at the main Moore Bldg., and on Saturday the 15th they will be at the Stearns Building just up the hill.

Starting on Tuesday, Aug. 28, prospective members can sign up for an audition time at http://www.mysignup.com/lso12. Please check your calendar to make sure you can play the Jan. 30 concert before signing up to audition!

Find more information about audition times, locations and requirements on the signup page. Audition excerpts are available at http://www.umich.edu/~lsorch/news/lsoschedule.html.

The first rehearsal for those chosen to take part in this year’s orchestra will be Sept. 16.

Rehearsals will be held most Sundays except for holiday weekends at the Rehearsal Hall at the School of Music from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

The LSO will also hold a Concerto Competition in late November, to choose a soloist for the spring concert. Only LSO members, and life sciences faculty/staff/students who do not play an orchestral instrument (piano, voice, etc.) are eligible to compete.
