Editorial raises awareness of disease transmission from organ transplant

This week’s Journal of the American Association includes a report on a fatal rabies transmission from an organ transplant. The case did not involve a University of Michigan patient, but in a JAMA editorial, Daniel R. Kaul, M.D., director of the Transplant Infectious Disease Service at the U-M Health System, recommends improving educational efforts to ensure physicians — particularly critical care specialists, neurologists, and infectious disease physicians — are aware of the risk.

For more details, see the news release at http://umhealth.me/139FafJ and watch Dr. Kaul describe the study on MedPage Today.
