Van Harrison featured in Wall Street Journal story on maintenance of certification

The Wall Street Journal’s Informed Patient column this week focuses on new maintenance of certification requirements for physicians, and the controversy over public reporting of the results of these measures of physician skill.

R. Van Harrison, Ph.D., a member of the Medical School’s Department of Medical Education who has led research on physician skill assessment, is quoted in the story, which is online here.

The article references a 2006 JAMA paper by Harrison and others that examined physicians’ ability to assess their own skill level.
