David R. Engelke, Ph.D., appointed interim chair of Biological Chemistry

David R. Engelke, Ph.D., has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Biological Chemistry, effective July 1, 2013. He has served as a professor of biological chemistry since 1996, having joined the U-M faculty in 1983.

Engelke has held numerous leadership positions, including founding director of the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) and Michigan Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP), director of the Cellular and Molecular Biology Training Program, assistant dean for graduate and postdoctoral studies in the Medical School, and associate dean of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies.

His excellence has been recognized with receipt of the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award from the University of Michigan and the Distinguished Faculty Lectureship Award in Biomedical Research from the Medical School. In 2012, he was inducted as an inaugural member of The League of Educational Excellence.
