UMHS to revise policy on photographing patients – Brown bag session Feb. 21
The University of Michigan Health System will be revising its policy regarding photographing and recording patients starting March 1.
Here are highlights of what’s new:
Photographing or recording a patient for internal education purposes now requires written consent.
Photographs taken for clinical patient care purposes should be incorporated into the patient’s medical record. They can be emailed to HIM-Photographs@med.umich.edu with identifying information that includes the patient’s name, medical record number, date photograph was taken, subject matter and body part photographed (e.g. decubitus ulcer of coccyx) and faculty/attending physician’s number (optional).
Consent form for photographing or recording patients is now available. See the Compliance Office webpage for important details and frequently asked questions.
Bring your questions to a brown bag session on Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 12-1 p.m. in the MCHC Auditorium (MCHC, F2305).
