Get a limited-edition t-shirt when you walk to cure diabetes

The University of Michigan Health System is a gold-level sponsor of the 2012 Ann Arbor-Dexter Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk – and the corporate chair is our own Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, M.D., executive vice president for medical affairs and chief executive officer, U-M Health System.

Gold U-M t-shirts adorning a Western design to go with this year’s “Rustle Up a Cure” theme will be available to those who donate or raise at least $25 (while quantities last). Once you register online for a U-M team, you will be contacted about your t-shirt size and delivery options.

The 2012 JDRF Ann Arbor-Dexter Walk to Cure Diabetes takes place on Sunday, Sept. 23 at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, 8801 North Territorial Road, Dexter, Mich. (Enter off North Territorial Road. Volunteers will direct you to parking). The Walk route is a scenic 3.5 miles on paved, flat terrain featuring lagoons, wildlife, and the Huron River.

The schedule includes:

8:30 a.m. – Check-in

9:30 a.m. – Walk begins (Rain or shine!)

11:30 a.m. – Closing ceremony

Strollers, wagons, and dogs on a leash are welcome! But — no bikes or rollerblades, please.

Enjoy morning refreshments, post-walk snacks, entertainment, and children’s activities. There will be a tent with diabetes information and supply exhibits. The best part is seeing all the teams of families and friends of the children with type 1 diabetes, all decked out in colorful team t-shirts, supporting the child and making a difference.

You can show you’re making a difference in diabetes research by wearing your gold U-M “Western” t-shirt at the JDRF Walk. Find out more at: www.med.umich.edu/JDRFWalk/.
