The announcement on Jan. 10 that UMHS and eight physician groups around Michigan have formed an Accountable Care Organization to provide better, less costly care for Medicare patients is getting widespread attention.

The Detroit News summary also mentions the seven other ACOs now operating in Michigan, including the Pioneer ACO that includes all 1,700 U-M Faculty Group Practice members and local IHA physicians.

Crain’s Detroit also has an article and other coverage is expected in coming days.

The new ACO, called the Physician Organization of Michigan ACO or POM ACO, includes 1,800 physicians and 81,000 traditional Medicare patients.
