For Affordable Care Act insurance seekers, UMHS offers enrollment help — and participation in most plans

Trained counselors available to help anyone explore & enroll, including in the 69 individual plans and 51 small business plans that UMHS will take part in

For Michiganders seeking health insurance for themselves, their families or the employees of their small business under the Affordable Care Act, the University of Michigan Health System stands ready to offer expert assistance, and access to advanced UMHS care through most of the available plans.

More than 25 staff members at UMHS have received federal training as Certified Application Counselors. They are standing by to help anyone explore their options, and their possible discounts, on the Health Insurance Marketplace for individuals and families, and the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP).

Meanwhile, UMHS has signed on to participate as an in-network provider for 69 of the 101 individual and family plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace, and 51 of the 68 plans on the SHOP. Visit this page to learn which plans UMHS is participating in.

That means these plans will be accepted for care at the three U-M hospitals, and 40 U-M health center locations – especially the advanced specialty care for which UMHS is known nationwide.

For people and businesses who choose other plans through the Marketplace or SHOP, UMHS care may be available out-of-network through special approval from the plan.

Any Michigander, no matter whether they have already been a patient at UMHS or not, may call UMHS Patient Financial Counselors at (877) 326-9155 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday-Friday, or email them at PFC-Counselors@med.umich.edu.
