Dr. Pescovitz calls for Medicaid expansion in Free Press op-ed

This week, the state legislature and Gov. Rick Snyder are considering options for allowing more Michiganders to enroll in Medicaid, funded by federal dollars.

In an opinion column in the Detroit Free Press, UMHS CEO Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, M.D., and the CEOs of the Saint Joseph Mercy and St. John health systems endorse Gov. Snyder’s plan.

The three health leaders say the idea could be good for the health of uninsured citizens and the health of Michigan hospitals, which currently absorb millions of dollars in uncompensated care.
