Doug Engel’s sickle cell research on front page of Detroit News

Sickle cell research performed by a team led by Doug Engel, Ph.D., chair of Cell & Developmental Biology made the front page of the Detroit News on Tuesday.

The story, available at http://umhealth.me/detnewsSCD, focused not only on his team’s discovery but also on its translation to a clinical trial that will be carried out at Wayne State University in Detroit, pending approval by their Institutional Review Board.

The research was published recently in Nature Medicine. For the U-M press release describing the finding in more detail, visit this page: http://www.uofmhealth.org/news/archive/201302/could-old-antidepressant-treat-sickle-cell-disease-tests
